In a swift operation, the Delhi Police arrested Gaurav Soni (24), a former employee of a car accessories shop in Karol Bagh, for stealing Rs 8 lakh. Soni, a native of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, used duplicate keys to access the store after business hours and commit the theft.
The incident came to light when the shop owner filed a complaint. Following the FIR, a police team reviewed CCTV footage and followed digital footprints to trace Soni’s movements. He was located and arrested shortly after.
Soni confessed to the crime during interrogation and revealed that he had hidden the stolen cash inside an almirah at his residence. From him, police recovered:
Rs 5.5 lakh in cash
An iPhone worth Rs 1.5 lakh
A Motorola foldable phone
He had already spent Rs 1 lakh on luxury clothing, accessories, and a high-end lifestyle, officials said.
Soni had allegedly pre-planned the theft. While still employed at the shop, he managed to make duplicate keys of the premises, allowing him access when no one was around.
