Bhatkal Rural police apprehended three members of the notorious Garuda Gang during an attempted robbery on the state highway near Bilalkhand village, Bhatkal taluk, in the early hours of Wednesday. Among those arrested were Jaleel Hussain (39) from Mangaluru, Nasheer Hakeem (26) from Gandhi Nagar, Heble, Bhatkal, and a minor with a previous record. Two suspects, Jishan of Mugum Colony and Nabeel from Battagaon, managed to escape.
Jaleel Hussain, a driver by profession, is linked to 11 prior cases of theft and robbery, while Nasheer Hakeem has two such cases registered against him. The minor also has one previous case. Police seized a Nokia keypad phone, a Nothing 2A phone, Rs 1500 cash, two knives, caps, a belt, blue tarpaulin, a white polythene bag, and a grey Toyota Innova used in the crime attempt.
The suspects intended to rob travelers on the road but were intercepted by PSI Rannagowda Patil near Gulle Road Cross. During questioning, the suspects tried to flee but lost control and their vehicle fell into a ditch. A case has been registered at Bhatkal Rural police station, and a special team is searching for the absconding suspects.
