Georgia Department of Agriculture Law Enforcement Seeks Additional Victims in Cattle Theft Fraud Scam

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J. Harper has announced that the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) Law Enforcement is investigating a multi-state cattle theft fraud case and seeking additional victims.

Multiple individuals have alleged that Garrett Hill (also known as Jared Smith) falsely advertised cattle for sale, required victims to pay a deposit via Cash App or other online money transfers, and then failed to deliver the cattle.

Hill was arrested by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) on May 7, 2025, as part of the ongoing investigation. GDA Law Enforcement is working closely with the FCSO Criminal Investigations Division and the Arkansas Department of Agriculture Law Enforcement to track down more victims and further investigate the fraudulent scheme.
