The Bowenpally police have busted a three-member gang involved in mobile phone thefts by using a clever scam involving fake road accidents.

The accused have been identified as Ganta Chinna (40), Pradhan Srikanth (22), and Avula Gopal Rao (20), all hailing from Odisha.

According to ACP Bowenpally, P. Gopala Krishna Murthy, the gang specialized in tricking unsuspecting citizens by staging accidents. One gang member would lie on a quiet stretch of road, pretending to be injured. When a good Samaritan stopped to help, another accomplice would approach under a pretext and steal their mobile phone or valuables while their attention was diverted.

Acting on a complaint from one such victim, police launched an investigation and arrested the trio. A total of 77 stolen mobile phones and a two-wheeler used in the crimes were recovered.

Police believe the gang may have been involved in several other similar incidents and are continuing the investigation.
