On Wednesday, notorious gangster Shiva Ramanna Shetty, known for his criminal network in Goregaon’s Film City, was arrested by the Aarey Sub police in connection with two major robberies in the Marathwada region. Shetty allegedly stole valuables worth Rs6 crore.
Shetty was apprehended at his residence in Gokuldham, Goregaon East, after being on the run for a Rs3 crore robbery in Nanded and a Rs2.74 crore robbery in Latur. Following a tip-off, police arrested him and handed him over to Latur authorities on Thursday.
Police revealed that Shetty runs a set erection business at Film City and leads a gang involved in extorting contractors and violently eliminating competition to maintain control over the industry.
In 2019, the Aarey Sub police invoked stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA) provisions against Shetty. He has over 10 serious criminal cases registered against him, including robbery, extortion, rioting, attempt to murder, and bodily harm, at Aarey, Borivali, and MHB police stations. After reviewing his criminal record, the additional commissioner of the north region, Dilip Sawant, approved charging him under MCOCA.
