Wadi police have arrested four members of a gang from Ahmedabad for stealing cash and valuables from an NRI woman. The accused, three women and one man, had come to Ahmedabad to carry out thefts and had targeted crowded areas in the old city.
The victim, Sunanda Malusare from Maharashtra, was shopping in Ghadiyali Pol when one of the thieves snatched her purse containing gold jewelry worth Rs 7.15 lakh and Rs 41,000 cash. She noticed the theft upon returning to her hotel and filed a complaint at Wadi police station.
Using CCTV footage and a tip-off, the police identified the accused as Bharat Dantani, his wife Suman Dantani, Hetal Malu, and Chanda Devipujak. All are footpath dwellers and have a history of thefts in Ahmedabad. The police recovered all the stolen jewelry, and Bharat Dantani was remanded to one day in police custody.
