In a major breakthrough, Naupada Police have arrested a repeat offender in connection with a housebreaking case involving gold and silver jewellery worth Rs7.99 lakh, stolen from a residence in the Brahman Society area on July 13, 2025.
The accused, identified as Ganesh Gupta, alias Ganesh Prakash Awhad (20), was nabbed following a detailed investigation involving the review of over 100 CCTV footages from areas around Thane station and Talaopali.
According to Senior Inspector Abhay Mahajan, CCTV surveillance captured a woman and two children—one of them carrying a bag with break-in tools—moving suspiciously through key locations. “The suspects altered their routes several times to avoid detection, but enhanced image captures led to the identification of the main accused,” said a police officer.
A meticulous two-day search operation across Sabegaon, Khardi, and Dativali led the police to Diva’s dumping ground, where Assistant Police Inspector Mangesh Bhange and his team finally arrested the accused.
Police recovered jewellery worth Rs10.99 lakh, solving not just this case but nine additional housebreaking cases linked to the same suspect. The court has remanded Ganesh Gupta to police custody until July 25, 2025, for further investigation.
