The Gandhinagar CID cyber crime cell has dismantled a major fraud ring that scammed gamers across India by falsely offering discounted in-game UC coins for BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) via Instagram. The gang created multiple fake Instagram profiles advertising cheap coins to lure victims.
Initially, the scammers transferred small quantities of coins to gain trust. Later, they threatened victims by falsely claiming their gaming accounts were reported and faced bans. Victims were then coerced into sending more money under the guise of “removing reports” with promises of refunds that never materialized. Payments were collected through QR codes shared on WhatsApp, but the coins were never delivered.
The cybercrime team raided a residence at Nidhi Bungalows Society, Palanpur, Banaskantha, arresting seven accused: Shailesh Chaudhary (21), Sendha Chaudhary (22), Jitendra Chaudhary (20), Suresh Chaudhary (20), Rahulkumar Chaudhary (20), Narsinh Chaudhary (19), and Rahul Chaudhary (19), all from villages in Tharad and Vav talukas.
A detailed technical investigation revealed the gang operated across 21 states, with 39 complaints filed on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal from 14 states. They used 25 bank accounts involved in transactions totaling Rs 2.11 crore between 2024 and 2025.
Police seized 13 mobile phones, 14 bank passbooks, 40 cheque books, 88 debit/credit cards, and Rs 1.5 lakh cash from the accused. An FIR was registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cheating by personation using digital means, and Sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act for identity theft and impersonation.
