Ganderbal Police Arrest Two in Heroin Recovery Case

Contraband Seized During Naka Check at Central University

Ganderbal Police arrested two individuals and recovered a heroin-like substance from their possession during a naka checking operation in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kheerbhawani, officials said on Tuesday.

The arrests occurred during routine checking near Central University, Tullamulla Road, under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Khalil Ahmad Poswal. A police team stopped a Maruti 800 vehicle with registration number JK01U-3866 for inspection.

During the search, the occupants—identified as Showkat Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, and Sameer Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Muzaffar Bhat, both residents of Batwina, Ganderbal—were apprehended. Police recovered a heroin-like substance from their possession, which was seized following legal procedures.

An FIR (No. 41/2025) has been registered at Police Station Kheerbhawani under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the contraband and identify any broader distribution network.

Authorities emphasized that the crackdown on drug trafficking will continue and urged the public to share any information regarding illicit drug activities.
