A Gainesville man is behind bars after being linked to two shoplifting cases — one in Flowery Branch and another in Gainesville — where thousands of dollars in merchandise was reported stolen.
Lt. Tony Alverez of the Flowery Branch Police Department said investigators responded on May 30 to a theft reported at the Stone Bridge Shopping Center. Officers later identified Jamarl Weaver, 45, as the suspect.
Flowery Branch Police released the following:
Investigators determined Weaver was involved in a shoplifting incident involving more than $600 worth of merchandise. A warrant was issued for felony shoplifting.
That same day, Weaver was taken into custody by Gwinnett County Police on unrelated charges. After his release from the Gwinnett County Jail, he was transported to the Hall County Detention Center, where he remained as of Thursday morning on bonds totaling $2,730.
Meanwhile, Gainesville Police have connected Weaver to multiple thefts from the Home Depot on Dawsonville Highway.
“I show multiple cases from May of 2025 where he was the listed offender for shoplifting at Home Depot,” said Gainesville Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook. “It is suspected he took air compressors from the store.”
Additional charges remain possible as the investigations continue.
