The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) arrested Gail Yvonne Young, a 54-year-old woman from Altha, on charges of grand theft exceeding $100,000. Young, who worked as the bookkeeper for a local farm machinery business in Florida’s Panhandle, allegedly defrauded the company by paying herself over $202,700 in unauthorized payments.
The investigation began on December 5, 2024, after the business owners raised concerns about suspicious transactions. An audit conducted by the company’s accounting firm confirmed that Young had made fraudulent payments beyond her regular salary. As the company’s bookkeeper, Young was responsible for payroll, accounts receivable, and inventory.
Young was arrested on January 31, 2025, and booked into Jackson County Jail. The 14th Judicial Circuit will prosecute the case, which is still under investigation by the FDLE Panama City Field Office with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
