Paralakhemundi police in Gajapati district have arrested four individuals for their alleged involvement in looting gold and silver ornaments from a residential house eight days ago. Authorities recovered the stolen items along with three mobile phones, with an estimated total value of around Rs 5 lakh, said Inspector-in-Charge Prasant Bhupati.
The accused have been identified as G Laxmi Narayan Rao (22), D Ganesh (25), M Vivek (27), and K Dhabal (20), all residents of Paralakhemundi. Police records show that Laxmi Narayan Rao had at least three pending cases, including two theft-related cases under the same police station.
According to police, the gang allegedly broke the gate lock of the house of P Chinnapadu on Gajapati Street, Ranipentha, on November 10, during the day when the family was away. They fled with more than 20gm of gold, over 500gm of silver ornaments, and Rs 25,000 in cash.
After registering a case on November 11, the police launched an investigation, verified CCTV footage, and identified one suspect, whose interrogation led to the identification and arrest of the remaining three accused.
Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine if the gang was involved in any additional crimes in the region.
