AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – A 33-year-old fugitive was taken into custody Monday following a SWAT standoff in Akron, according to U.S. Marshals.

Law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals Service and Akron Police Department arrived at a residence on Stevens Road in the afternoon to arrest Michael Anthony Reid, who was wanted on charges of strangulation and domestic violence.

Instead of surrendering, Reid barricaded himself inside the house, prompting a brief standoff. Authorities confirmed the situation ended peacefully and without injury when Reid was eventually arrested.

Court records indicate that Reid’s warrant is connected to an incident that occurred on March 29 on Seaman Avenue.

Reid is currently in custody at Summit County Jail. No additional details about the incident or his arraignment have been released at this time.
