SEATTLE — Sedric Stevenson, the 29-year-old inmate who escaped from custody at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in May, has been recaptured and is back behind bars.
Stevenson was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood, near Madison Street and Boylston Avenue, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Surveillance footage from May 4 showed Stevenson fleeing from two bounty hunters at Sea-Tac Airport while still shackled. He was seen making his way to the nearby light rail station during his escape.
Authorities also arrested a second person accused of helping Stevenson during the escape. That individual is facing a charge of second-degree rendering criminal assistance.
Stevenson was being transported back to Bowling Green, Kentucky, after failing to appear in court. His pending charges include assault on law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and a handgun, and attempting to pass counterfeit currency.
“This arrest sends a clear message: no matter how long it takes or how far someone runs, justice will catch up with them,” said U.S. Marshal Donrien Stephens. “The community can rest easier knowing a dangerous fugitive is no longer on the streets.”
The King County Jail confirmed that Stevenson was booked at approximately 4 p.m. Wednesday.
