GÖNYELI, Cyprus — Two men, Fuat Özkurt and Deniz Özkılıç, have been arrested in connection with the theft of a mobile phone belonging to Tufan Erhürman, leader of the Republican Turkish Party (TP).

The incident occurred on the evening of May 24, 2025, at approximately 8:40 PM in a restaurant in Gönyeli. According to police testimony presented by Officer Mustafa Göztaşı, security camera footage identified the two suspects as being responsible for the theft.

The stolen phone has not yet been recovered. During court proceedings, the suspects claimed they had found the phone and waited for someone to call, but noted that the screen was broken.

Police requested a three-day extension of the suspects’ detention, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Judge Nuray Necdet reviewed the testimony and approved the request, ordering that Özkurt and Özkılıç remain in custody while police continue their inquiries.

The case remains open as authorities work to locate the missing device and determine the full circumstances of the theft.
