A Mobile man has been arrested after police say he stole approximately $20,000 worth of dog food from a local warehouse and attempted to sell it online.
According to the Mobile Police Department, officers responded on Feb. 6 to a theft call at a warehouse belonging to Hill’s Pet Nutrition on Halls Mill Road. Hundreds of cans of dog food were reported stolen from an unlocked truck on the property.
The case took a turn when a company employee spotted the stolen product listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace and alerted authorities. Investigators executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home and recovered some of the stolen pet food.
Police identified the suspect as Freddrick Lee Jr., 37. Investigators believe Lee may have attempted to destroy part of the stolen product after realizing it was prescription-grade dog food not suitable for all dogs.
Lee was arrested on Feb. 25 and transported to Metro Jail. He is charged with Receiving Stolen Property in the First Degree. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing to determine whether others were involved and whether any of the stolen items were sold before his arrest.
