The Ferozepur police have arrested Baldev Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, on charges of forgery and fraud. Singh was apprehended in Guruharsahai after a tip-off about his involvement in creating fake Aadhaar cards and counterfeit official documents used to defraud both individuals and institutions.
According to the police, Baldev Singh, who also went by the alias “Gurdev Singh,” had fabricated several fake identification proofs, including an Aadhaar card. He is further accused of producing counterfeit stamps for the Education Department and Sewa Kendras. These forged documents were allegedly used to mislead banks and secure loans under false pretenses.
The arrest was made following credible information from a tipster, Jaswinder Singh, which led police to raid Singh’s location. Authorities seized a laptop, several fake Aadhaar cards, and counterfeit official stamps, all believed to be tools used in the fraudulent activities.
A First Information Report (FIR) was promptly filed, citing multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to forgery and identity theft. Baldev Singh has been arrested and is currently in custody as investigations continue under the supervision of Jaswinder Singh, the Investigating Officer.
This arrest highlights the increasing issue of document forgery and the misuse of government-issued credentials. The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities to help combat the rise in identity theft and fraudulent schemes.
Authorities have also assured that they are intensifying their efforts to crack down on similar fraud operations, with a focus on identifying and apprehending those responsible for the growing trend of fake document usage in Punjab.
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine the full extent of Singh’s fraudulent activities and whether he is part of a larger network involved in similar scams.
