A man who had been evading authorities for nearly two decades over fraud charges has finally been apprehended in Latur district, Maharashtra. The accused, Abhang Prabhu, also known as Prabhakar Suryawanshi, allegedly exploited public trust by posing as a village sarpanch to produce fake birth certificates.
Prabhu’s fraudulent activities date back to 2006, when he began collecting blank birth certificate forms, forging signatures, and stamping counterfeit documents. Despite multiple charges, he continuously eluded police by frequently changing locations and even adopting the identity of a gram panchayat leader.
Based on confidential intelligence, local police conducted a successful raid in the Bobli (Bk) locality, bringing an end to Suryawanshi’s long-standing run from the law. He now faces fresh charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Authorities warn citizens to remain vigilant against similar identity and document frauds, emphasizing the need for thorough verification in official matters.
