Four youths were arrested on charges of cruelty to dogs after Bilikere police registered a zero FIR following a complaint by Kavya, a law practitioner and member of the Animal Defence Council, Bengaluru. The accused will now face investigation by Hunsur police.
The arrested individuals include Karthik of Hunsur town and his accomplices—Kiran, Charan, and Manukumar. They have been booked for mischief, rendering an animal useless under the BNS, and for violating the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
According to Kavya, the investigation began after she discovered footage circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, showing a person assaulting and abusing a dog. She, along with Priyadarshini of the Animal Defence Council, traced the individuals claiming to be dog breeders.
To catch the accused, Kavya and Priyadarshini arranged a meeting under the pretext of purchasing puppies at a Café Coffee Day near Bilikere, after informing local police, who then detained the four youths.
