Four alleged cybercriminals were arrested in Deoghar on Thursday evening after police raided a forested area under Margomunda police station limits. During the operation, officers recovered Rs13.12 lakh in cash from the suspects, who were believed to be running phone-based fraud operations.

Officials said the arrests were made following a tip-off that the group had been impersonating customer service agents, bank officials, and even government officers to deceive people over phone calls and extract money.

Deputy superintendent of police (cyber), Raja Kumar Mitra, confirmed that police seized multiple mobile phones, ATM cards from various banks, and a number of SIM cards from the accused.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Basudeo Kol of Asna village, Liyakat Ansari and Rahmat Ansari of Bagjora and Bansjora villages, and Shiba Hasda of Kapasiyo village.

“Seven mobile phones, six SIM cards, and three ATM cards were seized from their possession,” DSP Mitra said, adding that Rs13.12 lakh was found with Liyakat Ansari alone.

Police believe the group was operating a coordinated scam targeting unsuspecting victims across different regions.
