Four men have been arrested for the murder of their friend, 25-year-old milk parlour operator Sanket Chauhan, following a drunken brawl, police said on Sunday.

Sanket’s body was discovered late Thursday night in front of Mohanpur Panchayat Ghar within the Cantt police limits, with a bullet wound on the left side of his chest. The deceased was a resident of Samrat Ashok Nagar under Baradari police jurisdiction.

According to SP (city) Manush Pareek, Sanket was killed by his friends after a heated argument during a drinking session escalated into violence. The suspects — Aman alias Ritik, Javed, Ashish alias Somu, and Anshu — were tracked down following a police tip-off near Kathpula Bridge on Friday night.

Police officers set up a checkpoint and tried to stop two motorcycles. The riders opened fire, resulting in Aman and Javed being shot in the legs during the ensuing encounter. The two were admitted to the district hospital before being taken into custody along with Ashish and Anshu.

Country-made pistols and cartridges were recovered from the accused. During interrogation, the men admitted that an argument started over who was the “biggest goon.” Aman went home to retrieve a pistol, after which the four lured Sanket to a deserted road where Aman shot him in the chest.

The investigation is ongoing, with police cooperating closely with the Special Operations Group (SOG).
