Four Charged in Cumbria Constabulary Fraud Investigation

Criminals posed as police officers in scam calls

Cumbria Constabulary has charged four individuals following an investigation into fraudulent phone calls made by criminals impersonating police officers. The charges are a result of proactive measures taken by a specialized team of detectives who acted swiftly over the past three days.

Detective Inspector Lee Brumpton of Cumberland CID stated, “The charges follow proactive action taken by a dedicated team of detectives who have worked tirelessly to arrest and charge the suspects.” Despite these charges, DI Brumpton is urging anyone who has fallen victim to such scams to reach out to the police.

He emphasized, “Our dedicated team of detectives will deal with your report sensitively and positively.” DI Brumpton also reminded the community to remain vigilant regarding these fraudulent phone calls and to share information with family and friends to raise awareness of this ongoing scam.

The following individuals have been charged:

  • Bilal Akhter, 39, with no fixed address, charged with conspiracy to steal from another.
  • Amir Sohail Rehman, 28, of Colwick Road, Nottingham, charged with conspiracy to steal from another.
  • Luliana Nicolae, 23, of Stockhill Lane, Nottingham, charged with conspiracy to steal from another.
  • Muhammad Shahzeb, 19, of Stenson Road, Derby, charged with conspiracy to steal from another, theft (including theft by finding), and possession of a shotgun without a certificate.
