Four men were arrested in Maharashtra’s Thane district for allegedly possessing ganja worth Rs 14.18 lakh, police officials reported on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, Kashimira police apprehended the accused on May 24.
The accused have been identified as Akhtar Rafique Sheikh (32), Jabbar Khajamiya Sheikh (30), Sharik Jamir Ansari (21), and Azgar Ali Arshad Hussain Ansari (21), all residents of Bhiwandi.
Authorities recovered 70.919 kilograms of ganja valued at over Rs 14 lakh, along with a tempo used for transport. Akhtar Rafique Sheikh, a habitual offender with seven prior cases including theft and organized crime, was among those arrested.
The four individuals have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, police added.
