Four Arrested for Elephant Tusks and Impersonating Police Officers in Tanzania
Over the past month, Tanzanian authorities have arrested four individuals in connection with illegal wildlife trade, with a total of 29 elephant tusks seized in Kilosa and Morogoro districts. The suspects include Yahaya Bakari (60), a farmer from Chalinze; Juma Ramadhan Zinga (46), a farmer from Bagamoyo; Masima Mlugu Ntumbi, a farmer from Mlenge Vianzi in Mvomero district; and Mansour Juma Abdallah (40), a farmer from Dar es Salaam.
In a separate operation, police have arrested Selemani Mohammed (34), a resident of Mafisa in Morogoro Municipality, for his involvement in an illegal scam. Mohammed, along with 14 accomplices, was allegedly impersonating police officers to conduct unauthorized searches for marijuana in homes in the Mlali area of Mvomero district. The group’s suspicious actions were reported by local residents, leading to police intervention and the prevention of the scam.
Commander Mkama commended the public for their alertness in reporting such crimes and stressed the importance of adhering to the law. He encouraged citizens to pursue legitimate means of income rather than engaging in criminal activities.
