Phagwara police, acting on specific intelligence, have arrested four individuals allegedly involved in an illegal cow meat processing and distribution racket near the city. The arrests were made under relevant provisions of the cow slaughter prohibition and food safety laws.
DSP Phillaur, Bharat Masih, confirmed that the investigation began following a complaint by local resident Harish Bhalla of Sarafa Bazaar, Phagwara. A targeted operation was conducted on the road from Dusanjh Kalan to Kale Pind, near Kot Grewal village, where authorities discovered cow meat being sold from a concealed shed. Police also found ghee being prepared from cow fat, allegedly for distribution to multiple locations.
The arrested individuals are:
Suleman alias Sultan
Avtar Chand alias Bhagwan
Bilal
Amjad
Police seized a Tata Ace vehicle (PB-09-S-0153) used to transport and distribute the contraband. Although the vehicle bore markings suggesting it was linked to a cow shelter, investigators allege it was being misused for the sale of cow meat across locations.
All four accused are currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
