Police have arrested four individuals and recovered stolen cash and gold ornaments worth Rs four crore in connection with the daylight robbery at the Kotekar Co-operative Bank on January 17.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal praised the swift efforts of the police team that cracked the case. The robbery involved four masked and armed individuals who looted the bank, escaping with cash and gold jewelry.
Officials noted that lapses on the bank’s part — including CCTV cameras being under maintenance and the master locker being left open — made it easier for the criminals to execute the robbery.
In a press conference, Commissioner Agarwal stated, “All 18.3 kgs of gold, Rs 3.8 lakh in cash, armaments, the getaway car, and two fake number plates were recovered within about a week. We lost no time tracking the culprits. Four accused have been arrested, and the hunt continues for four more involved.”
Police teams were deployed across Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, covering over 3,700 kilometers in three days, successfully apprehending the main suspects.
The arrested persons are Murugundi Thevar (36), Yosuva Rajendran (35), Kannan Mani (36), and M Shanmugasundaram (65). Authorities are still pursuing four others, including Shashi Thevar.
