by Ananya Mehta

A team from Basistha Police Station has arrested four alleged habitual motorcycle thieves in Jorhat and recovered three stolen bikes during two separate operations conducted as part of an ongoing investigation.

In the first operation, police apprehended Biki Rahman (29) of Mariani Town and Mridu Boro (19) of Na-ali, Dhekiajuli. The duo was found with a stolen Apache motorcycle (GJ-10 DG-7305), reported stolen from Jorhat on January 16. Officers also seized an iron pin allegedly used to start the vehicle without a key.

Following disclosures made by a previously arrested suspect, police traced two more accused — Palash Barhoi, alias Mintu (22), and Dhruba Baruah, alias Lora (23) — from Konwari Pukhuri, Lichubari. Two additional stolen motorcycles, a Hero Xpulse 200 CC and a Yamaha R15 V3, were recovered from their possession.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against all four suspects. Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine if the group is connected to other vehicle thefts in the region.
