Four women have been arrested in DeSoto County, Tennessee, for food stamp fraud amounting to approximately $131,000, according to District Attorney Matthew Barton.
A collaborative investigation between the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, and the Mississippi Department of Human Services (DHS) led to the indictments of these four women. They were accused of failing to disclose changes in their financial circumstances and withholding income details to qualify for government assistance benefits.
Details of the Arrests
Stephanie Wright faces a three-count indictment for fraud totaling $18,114.
Tiffany Harrel has a five-count indictment for fraud totaling $30,443.
Syerra Lynks was indicted on three counts for fraud totaling $30,853.
Lashanda Smith faces a five-count indictment for fraud totaling $52,053.
The fraudulent activities began in 2020 and continued until a few months ago, according to the DA’s office.

District Attorney Matthew Barton urged the public to report any tips related to fraud cases, encouraging assistance in investigating future cases. He emphasized that these indictments are part of an ongoing effort to prevent and prosecute food stamp fraud in the region.
