In a major crackdown on interstate drug trafficking, Chimpu Police arrested four individuals and seized 4.497 kg of cannabis linked to a drug network operating between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
On March 17, during a routine naka check at Chimpu Check Post, police intercepted a scooty carrying 1.44 kg of cannabis hidden under its seat. Two suspects—Lijom Dulom (20) from Sikarijo, Upper Subansiri, and Bhai Dobin alias Tumjum (19) from Airport Colony, Upper Subansiri—were apprehended. Their interrogation led to a follow-up raid.
Acting on intelligence, police arrested two more suspects on March 20: Narayan Mahanand (25) and Sanjay Kumar (23), both from Boroi Bagan, Biswanath, Assam. An additional 3.057 kg of cannabis, two mobile phones, and a Yamaha FZS motorcycle (Reg. No. AS32A-5431) were seized during the operation.
The operation was led by SDPO Itanagar Kengo Dirchi, Vibu Krishna, IPS (P), and Vivek Maurya, IPS (P), supervised by SP Itanagar Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS. The team included Inspector N Nishant, SI T Bakhang, SI T Nabam, SI S K Jha, ASI Manish Kumar, ASI (SG) G Sangey, HC J Romin, HC G Padu, and L/HC N Sora, with critical support from the Chimpu-Gohpur Market Committee and Chimpu Youth Organization.
The Itanagar Capital Region Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activities to help curb trafficking in the region.
