Chennai Police arrested four men for allegedly possessing methamphetamine in two separate operations in Puzhal and Washermenpet. The police seized a total of 70 grams of methamphetamine from the suspects, marking another significant drug bust in the city.
The operation began after the Anti-Narcotics Unit received information from five individuals arrested the previous week for possessing methamphetamine. Acting on this intelligence, the police intensified their surveillance, particularly in Puzhal.
At around Puzhal, officers spotted two men—Venkatesh (41) and Govardhan Reddy (39)—behaving suspiciously. Upon searching them, the police found 64 grams of meth in their possession. They were arrested on the spot, and ₹6 lakh in cash was also seized from the duo, suggesting possible drug trafficking operations.
Following this lead, police arrested two more individuals, S. Basheer Ahmed (51) and R. Harish Babu (50), in Washermenpet. From them, the police seized 6 grams of methamphetamine.
In addition to the methamphetamine seizures, the Chennai Police also made significant arrests related to ganja trafficking in multiple areas. On the same day, police arrested eight individuals, including a minor, for possessing 6.8 kg of ganja at CMBT, Koyembedu, and Poonamallee. Those arrested in the ganja case were identified as Saravanan, Muthu, Vimal Raj, Gokul, Bharathiraja, Thirumalai, Joseph alias Manda Dinesh, and the minor boy.
Furthermore, in a related incident, the Kodungaiyur Police arrested another eight individuals and recovered 22 kg of ganja. Authorities revealed that the group was using fake number plates on vehicles to smuggle ganja from neighboring states into Chennai.
These arrests are part of a broader crackdown by the Tamil Nadu Police on the growing menace of illegal drugs in the region, particularly methamphetamine and ganja. With rising concerns about drug-related crime and its impact on the community, the police have vowed to continue their efforts to dismantle drug networks operating in the city and its surroundings.
This string of arrests underscores the importance of vigilance and community cooperation in combating drug-related crimes and ensuring public safety. The authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activities and assist in the ongoing fight against the illegal drug trade.
