In a major breakthrough, the Drug Control Team and Khanapur police seized 750 kilograms of dry ganja valued at approximately Rs3.80 crore and arrested four persons near the Chilukamma Nagar forest area.
The accused were identified as Andala Pandureddy from Alluri Seetharamaraju district, Andhra Pradesh; Gollari Muniraju and Koppu Kotaiah from Odisha; and Bhukya Saikumar from Anthagiri mandal, Suryapet district.
Police Commissioner Sunpreet Singh informed media in Hanamkonda that the accused were transporting the contraband in four plastic bags on a motorcycle under orders from absconding suspects Ramesh and Majji Krishna.
“The accused attempted to flee upon seeing the police but were apprehended on Monday. They confessed to possessing approximately 750 kgs of dry ganja, including contraband hidden in a secret forest location,” the Commissioner added.
The accused stated they were paid Rs10,000 each for their role. Investigations revealed their involvement in multiple smuggling operations, including a prior attempt to sell 120 kilograms of dry ganja in Bidar.
A case has been registered, and a manhunt is underway to arrest the absconding suspects.
Commissioner Singh congratulated the team involved, including Special Branch ACP M. Jitender Reddy, Drugs Control Team Inspector Satish, and other personnel.
