Four Arrested for Attempted Drug Smuggling at Hanimaadhoo Airport

Police seize 13.85 grams of drugs in coordinated operation

Four individuals were arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle drugs into Haa Dhaalu atoll Hanimaadhoo, following a tip-off to the Counter Narcotics Intelligence. The arrests took place at Hanimaadhoo Airport in a joint operation conducted by the Kulhudhuffushi police, Hanimaadhoo police, and intelligence officers.

The authorities seized a total of 13.85 grams of suspected drugs from the suspects, who were detained during the operation.

The individuals arrested include:

Fathimath Shaha Hassan, 20, from Noonu Velidhoo
Hussain Shaawin, 22, from Kaafu Guraidhoo
Mohamed Rilwan Abdul Sattar, 22, from Feydhoo, Addu City
Arsam Ali Waheed, 28, from Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo
The Hanimaadhoo Magistrate’s Court has ordered their remand for 30 days as the investigation continues.

In a related matter, on February 13, a mother and daughter duo, Aminath, 56, and Fathimath Maya, 25, were also arrested in connection with drug use and trafficking in Hanimaadhoo. The pair were taken into custody from their residence, Maya Palace. Aminath has been remanded for five days, while Maya has been remanded for 15 days.
