BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) — Four adults have been arrested after allegedly encouraging a fight between middle school students in the Tom Brown Housing Community on Thursday, August 28, according to the Birmingham Police Department.

Officers from the High Intensity Community Oriented Police Patrol Unit (HICOPP) responded to reports of a fight involving students from Hays Middle School. During the investigation, police discovered that several adults may have played a role in escalating or facilitating the altercation.

The following individuals were arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor:

Jasmine Heidelberg, 27

Tiara Williams, 30 (also charged with child endangerment)

Khadijah Weaver, 31

Dianna Young, 32

Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett issued a firm statement following the arrests:

“This kind of parental neglect is a disgrace to our community and to society as a whole. As adults, we have a responsibility to be role models and provide the right guidance for our children.”

Chief Pickett emphasized “zero tolerance” for adults who encourage, promote, or facilitate violence among youth. He praised the swift action taken by officers and reinforced the department’s commitment to protecting Birmingham’s children.

“It truly takes a village to raise and protect our children,” Pickett said. “BPD will continue to support the youth of our city and ensure they grow up in a safe, positive environment.”

The investigation is ongoing, and additional details may be released as they become available.
