Police in Jammu and Kashmir arrested four long-absconding accused from Udhampur and Poonch districts on Monday as part of a sustained crackdown on fugitives evading the law, officials said.
In Udhampur district, police apprehended three proclaimed absconders who had been wanted in different criminal cases for several years.
One of the arrested accused, Gourav Bandral, was wanted in a dowry harassment case registered in 2025. He had been declared an absconder by the Munsiff Court, Udhampur, and was arrested following continuous tracking by the police.
In another case, Parkash Singh was arrested in connection with a theft case registered in 2020. He had been evading arrest since the registration of the case and was finally apprehended on the basis of a warrant issued by the Sub-Judge Court, Udhampur.
Police also arrested Tamana Sharma, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, in connection with a dowry-related case registered in 2025. She was produced before the Munsiff Court, Udhampur, for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, in Poonch district, police arrested another absconder, Mohd Imtiyaz, who had been wanted since 2018 in a case involving criminal trespass and causing injuries. Acting on specific and credible intelligence inputs, a police team successfully traced and apprehended him.
Officials said all the arrested accused will be produced before the respective courts and further legal action will follow. Police reiterated their commitment to tracking absconders and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
