SCOTT COUNTY, Tenn. — A former nurse at the Scott County Jail has been indicted after an investigation revealed she smuggled contraband into the facility and stole prescription medications while on the job.
Authorities announced Friday that Tonja York Draughn, 60, was indicted by a Scott County Grand Jury on charges of official misconduct and theft.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), Draughn used her position at the Scott County Sheriff’s Office to bring unauthorized items into the jail for sale to inmates. She also stole medications during her employment.
The investigation began in October 2024 at the request of 8th Judicial District Attorney General Jared Effler. Following the indictment, Draughn turned herself in and was booked into the Scott County Jail. She was released on a $10,000 bond.
The case remains under investigation by the TBI.
