NORFOLK, Va. — Tashonna L. McKinzie, 49, a former inmate classification manager at the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, was arrested on Tuesday, July 29, on multiple drug-related charges. McKinzie faces charges including possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, conspiracy to violate drug control laws, and possession of a firearm while in possession of fentanyl in Norfolk. She also faces an additional charge in Virginia Beach.
McKinzie, who had worked at the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office since November 2001 and was responsible for overseeing inmate placement, was taken into custody around 2:30 p.m. on July 29. Following her arrest, she was immediately terminated from her position.
Norfolk Sheriff Joe Baron emphasized the office’s commitment to integrity and public trust, stating that McKinzie’s arrest and the results of an internal investigation led to her dismissal. “We remain dedicated to public safety and serving the citizens of Norfolk,” Baron said.
The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office cooperated fully with investigators during the probe that led to McKinzie’s arrest.
