Former Martial Arts Instructor Faces 42 Counts of Sexual Abuse

Tyler LeClerc, 28, indicted on multiple charges after allegedly abusing former students

Poughkeepsie, NY — Tyler LeClerc, a 28-year-old former martial arts instructor, was led into a courtroom in handcuffs on Tuesday, facing a 42-count indictment that includes serious charges of sexual abuse. LeClerc’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the local community, as many families who once trusted him with their children packed the courtroom during his arraignment.

LeClerc, who taught at LeClerc’s Martial Arts — a family-owned business with six locations across Dutchess and Ulster counties — was accused of criminal sexual acts, forcible touching, and third-degree sexual abuse. The alleged crimes occurred between March 2021 and February 2025, with four victims named in the indictment.

As LeClerc was escorted into the courtroom, emotions ran high. Families of former students, some visibly shaken, were in attendance. One individual shouted expletives at LeClerc as he was leaving the room. LeClerc’s charges now include six counts of criminal sexual act, one count of first-degree sexual abuse, 17 counts of forcible touching, and 18 counts of third-degree sexual abuse.

For Jonathan D’Agostino, a local parent with an 8-year-old son who attended LeClerc’s school, the news hit close to home. While his son was not a victim, D’Agostino expressed how devastating the situation was for the entire community. “It’s very difficult because there are the actual victims,” he said, “and then there are also all the kids that attended his school whose lives have drastically changed since all this went down.”

LeClerc’s attorney did not comment on the case, but District Attorney Anthony Parisi issued a statement expressing the gravity of the situation. “No child should ever feel unsafe in a place meant to foster discipline and respect. We will not tolerate any actions that endanger the well-being of our children,” he said.

The case continues to unfold, with Judge Jessica Segal adjourning the proceedings until April 24, and LeClerc remains at the Dutchess County Jail without bail. A no-contact order has been issued, preventing LeClerc from reaching out to the affected families directly or indirectly.

As the case progresses, many are hoping for justice and closure. “Hopefully we’ll find closure, and everybody will be able to continue on,” said D’Agostino, emphasizing the need for healing in the community.
