Laguna Beach police announced Saturday the arrest of 37-year-old Phelton Calhoun, former general manager of La Casa Del Camino hotel, who is accused of sexually assaulting a minor, selling narcotics, and possessing illegal firearms.
The investigation began on July 15 after officers received a report involving a 17-year-old girl who claimed Calhoun raped her while she was intoxicated. The alleged assault reportedly occurred in Laguna Beach about three weeks prior. Police did not clarify if Calhoun was employed at the hotel at the time of the incident or where exactly it took place.
Further investigation by detectives and the Special Enforcement Team revealed Calhoun also sold cocaine and possessed firearms. A search warrant executed at his residence resulted in the seizure of additional narcotics intended for sale and firearms.
Calhoun was taken into custody without incident and is currently held without bail at Laguna Beach Police Department Jail. He faces multiple charges, including rape of an intoxicated person, statutory rape of a minor more than three years younger, sending harmful material to a minor, possession of narcotics for sale, and possession of a firearm alongside narcotics.
