GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) — A 62-year-old Green Bay man, Floyd Simmons, is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly attempting to kill his girlfriend and threatening to shoot a police officer.
Simmons was arrested early Friday after his girlfriend sought help at a downtown hotel, following a violent altercation near Jackson Square Park.
According to the criminal complaint, the woman said she and Simmons had been drinking when he briefly left and returned “sweaty,” appearing to be under the influence. He allegedly demanded $300 in rent money, despite her not yet living in his apartment.
An argument escalated when Simmons grabbed her by the neck, cutting off her breathing. She fought back and escaped, hiding before reaching out to police.
Officers located Simmons near his apartment. While being arrested, he allegedly stated, “I should’ve stomped on her neck,” and added from the squad car, “If I had a gun, I would shoot you.”
Authorities say Simmons was combative, kicked the squad car door, used racial slurs, and made sexually inappropriate remarks during the arrest. Police also recovered drug paraphernalia, believed to be a crack pipe.
On Tuesday, Simmons was formally charged with:
Attempted first-degree intentional homicide
Strangulation and suffocation
Threatening harm to legal system personnel
Obstructing an officer
Disorderly conduct
Possession of drug paraphernalia
If convicted, Simmons could face up to 60 years for the attempted homicide alone, with an additional 19+ years from the other charges.
Police say his threats were taken seriously due to his violent actions and complete disregard for human life.
