Florida Man Shane Jordan Pleads Guilty in Medicare Fraud Scheme

Jordan defrauded Medicare of $7.3 million by signing fraudulent orders

by Sophia Bennett

Shane Jordan, 38, of Orlando, Florida, pleaded guilty today to participating in a conspiracy to defraud Medicare out of $7.3 million, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire announced. Jordan, a licensed physician assistant, admitted to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.

Court records reveal that Jordan worked with a Florida-based telemedicine company between February 2021 and May 2024, signing fraudulent doctor’s orders for cancer genetic testing. These orders were submitted to Medicare, despite the fact that the tests were not medically necessary and often lacked a legitimate doctor-patient relationship.

For each fraudulent order signed, Jordan was paid approximately $25 per patient, earning over $212,000 during the scheme. The fraudulent claims resulted in Medicare being billed over $7.3 million, causing significant financial losses.

The scheme exploited Medicare’s reimbursement system for personal financial gain, while many Medicare beneficiaries were unaware their information was being used fraudulently. The Department of Justice has emphasized its commitment to investigating and prosecuting health care fraud, which costs taxpayers billions of dollars annually.

Jordan faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000 or twice the amount of his financial gain. A sentencing date will be set by the federal district court judge in accordance with the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
