Tampa dentist Richard Kantwill, 61, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to sending over 100 threats to 40 victims over their political views.
Case Details
Despite FBI warnings, Kantwill continued his campaign of threats against an election official, a TV personality, an author, and a religious leader. His actions led Attorney General Merrick Garland to call it an “almost year-long campaign of terror.”
Sentencing & Conditions
On Tuesday, Judge Mary Scriven sentenced Kantwill to two years in prison with credit for time served, meaning his eight months in jail without bond will count toward his sentence. He will also serve three years of parole, pay a $10,000 fine, and undergo mental health and substance abuse treatment.
Kantwill, a former Army combat medic and Tampa-based dentist, reportedly struggled with PTSD and alcoholism, according to his attorneys.
