FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. — Justin McWhite, 26, was arrested on Monday and charged with attempted murder following a violent assault on his mother over the weekend. The assault occurred on Sunday at a residence on Diggs Avenue.

According to Florence County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) officials, they responded to a distress call from the 1200 block of Diggs Avenue and found the female victim severely injured. The victim had visible injuries on her face, consistent with a brutal attack.

Details of the Incident:

The investigation revealed that Justin McWhite, the victim’s son, had physically assaulted her in a violent fit of rage. According to the warrant, McWhite was upset over a disagreement about what his mother was cooking for dinner, which appeared to trigger the attack.

Witnesses reported that McWhite followed his mother into her room and began to choke her while striking her in the face. The victim’s daughter, who was present at the scene, heard the screams and immediately rushed to intervene. She tried to stop McWhite by pulling him off and striking him with nearby objects, but was unsuccessful.

After the assault, McWhite fled the scene, prompting authorities to conduct an extensive search in the area. Despite efforts to locate him, McWhite was not apprehended immediately. On Monday, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office was able to locate and arrest him.

McWhite has been charged with attempted murder and is being held pending further legal proceedings. His violent attack has shocked the community, underscoring the issue of domestic violence within households.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case.
