Five Railway Officials Arrested in Bribery Scam by CBI

The Gandhinagar unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested five railway officials on Wednesday for their involvement in a bribery scam related to departmental examinations. The officials, including two Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) officers posted at the Vadodara division, were accused of accepting bribes from candidates in exchange for securing favorable results in the examinations.

The arrests followed searches at 11 locations, including in Vadodara, where the CBI seized 650 grams of gold and Rs 5 lakh in cash, according to a CBI spokesperson.

Those arrested included:

Sunil Bishnoi
Ankush Wasan
Neeraj Sinha
Dinesh Kumar
Bishnoi and Wasan were responsible for overseeing the upcoming “limited departmental examination” for railway employee promotions and are accused of accepting bribes to ensure favorable outcomes for candidates.

The CBI’s investigation began with an FIR registration on Tuesday related to bribery accusations concerning the examination process. According to the CBI’s findings, Ankush Wasan instructed Sanjay Kumar Tiwari to identify candidates willing to pay bribes for preferential treatment. Tiwari then contacted Mukesh Meena, who collected bribe money from candidates. Neeraj Sinha also played a role by identifying additional candidates and collecting money from them.

On February 17, Tiwari arranged to purchase 400 grams of gold in cash without an invoice. He met with Meena in Anand, where they collected the bribe money. Later, during the investigation, 650 grams of gold were found with Dinesh Kumar, which was allegedly sourced from a jeweler in Vadodara for around Rs 57 lakh. This gold was intended for Sunil Bishnoi.

The operation marks another significant action in the ongoing probe into corruption within railway recruitment.
