SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas — Five people were arrested following a coordinated investigation into vehicle thefts and commercial burglaries in Sulphur Springs and nearby Greenville.
The investigation began Feb. 2 after a surge in stolen vehicles. Police executed a search warrant at a Sulphur Springs residence, recovering evidence linking the occupants to four vehicle thefts. On Feb. 3, authorities located a suspect vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop, taking five individuals into custody:
Joseph Vernon Johnson, Greenville
Jayla Jackson, Sulphur Springs
Diego Childs-Goodale, Sulphur Springs
Two juveniles (names withheld)
Authorities report that the suspects confessed to the vehicle thefts. Johnson, Jackson, and the juveniles also admitted to two burglaries at the One Stop convenience store on Main Street, along with four additional unsuccessful vehicle theft attempts in Sulphur Springs, Paris, Greenville, and Commerce.
The three adult suspects face multiple charges, including:
Possession of a Controlled Substance (PG 2 >1g <4g) – Third Degree Felony Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information (<5 items) – State Action Felony Possession of Marijuana (>2oz <4oz) – Class A Misdemeanor Unlawful Use of a Criminal Instrument – Class B Misdemeanor Possession of a Controlled Substance – Class B Misdemeanor Additionally, Johnson faces three charges for engaging in organized criminal activity with a $315,000 bond, Jackson faces two similar charges with bonds totaling $240,000, and Childs-Goodale is held on a $90,000 bond.
