Five Arrested in Lafayette Parish on Firearm and Drug Charges

Five individuals from Alexandria and Prairieville arrested after investigation into suspicious activities near UL Lafayette campus

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Five individuals were arrested in Lafayette Parish on March 24, 2025, following an investigation into suspicious activities near the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus. The arrests were made after officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to a report of people allegedly brandishing firearms in the 100 block of Lamar Street.

At approximately 4:31 p.m., officers arrived on the scene and conducted an investigation that led to the discovery of multiple firearms and illegal drugs, including marijuana. Among the items found were five THC cartridge dosage units, 46.3 grams of marijuana, and three firearms: a .40-caliber Glock pistol and two 9mm Glock pistols, one of which was reported as stolen by the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office.

The following individuals were arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish jail:

Layton D. Smith, 19, of Alexandria, charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance schedule I (Marijuana).

Mikel E. Ferrell, 18, of Alexandria, charged with one count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance schedule I (Marijuana), one count of illegal possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, and one count of possession of a firearm in a firearm-free zone.

Kameron D. Stewart, 19, of Alexandria, charged with one count of simple possession of marijuana, one count of illegal possession of a stolen firearm, and one count of possession of a firearm in a firearm-free zone.

Kaleab D. Stewart, 18, of Alexandria, charged with one count of possession of a firearm in a firearm-free zone.

Reginald D. Price, 20, of Prairieville, arrested on an active 15th Judicial District Court arrest warrant.

There is currently no information regarding bond for any of the individuals arrested. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have emphasized that possessing firearms in areas near educational institutions or while involved with illegal substances can carry serious legal consequences.
