Five persons involved in the kidnapping and attempted sale of a five-year-old girl were arrested by the Chandrayangutta police, who successfully rescued the child from a home in Uppal on Wednesday.
On the night of April 20, police received a complaint that the daughter of labourers from Barkas had gone missing while waiting near Bhramaramba Wines in Chandrayangutta. The girl was last seen with her uncle, who had gone to purchase liquor and returned to find her missing.
An investigation led police to identify a couple, Javed Pasha, an AC mechanic, and his second wife, Shayista Parveen from Shareef Nagar in Balapur, as the prime suspects. Both were arrested on April 23 and during interrogation confessed to kidnapping the child. They revealed they had sold the girl for Rs1.3 lakh to a beautician, Parveen Bhanu from Chilkanagar in Uppal.
A police team immediately raided Parveen Bhanu’s residence and rescued the girl. At the time, Bhanu was attempting to sell the child to two individuals, Sunitha Kumari and Rajendra Prasad, who were also arrested. The girl was safely handed back to her parents.
Further investigations revealed Rajendra Prasad, a resident of Chintal and an agent at a fertility centre in Banjara Hills, and Sunitha Kumari, who runs a first aid clinic in Chilkanagar, had previously been accused in a child trafficking case in Mumbai’s Vikroli police jurisdiction in 2024. The group is believed to be part of an organized network involved in buying and selling children.
Chandrayangutta police inspector K Gurunath said the suspects planned to sell kidnapped children to childless couples for monetary gains. All accused will undergo further questioning to verify their involvement in other criminal activities.
