Five individuals were arrested in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha for their involvement in a fraudulent scheme that involved forging the signature and seal of an Honourable judge to loot Rs 20 lakh, the pension of a deceased CISF jawan.

According to reports, the criminals used a forged 2021 court order, which had originally been part of a divorce case involving CISF jawan Jadunath Singh and his wife, Minati. However, the 2021 court order was manipulated and backdated to 2007, creating a fake document that falsely stated a divorce between the couple.

In an even more deceitful move, a marriage certificate was fabricated, claiming that Jadunath had married his sister-in-law, Sombari. After Jadunath’s death in 2023, the fraudsters used this forged document to withdraw his pension money worth Rs 20 lakh from the CISF.

Upon discovering the fraudulent withdrawal, a thorough investigation was launched, uncovering the entire scheme. As a result, five individuals were arrested, including Mehural Banamali Singh, computer shop owner Vijay Patra, Jadunath’s sister-in-law Sombari, her nephew Neelam Singh, and government pleader Pratima Sahu.

Authorities continue to investigate further to determine if more individuals were involved in this elaborate fraud.
