Five men were arrested at Arakkonam railway station for smuggling drugs worth Rs1 crore from Mumbai to Chennai. The accused, Murthash (37), Mangesh (46), Sahith (40), Shankar (34), and Umaiyar (22), are all residents of Mumbai.

Following complaints of drug smuggling via the Mumbai-Chennai superfast express train passing through Arakkonam, a police team led by Prohibition Enforcement Wing Inspector Chandrakumar and supervised by Arakkonam DSP Y Jaffar Siddik stepped up inspections at the station and onboard trains.

Initially, two suspects were arrested and sent to judicial custody. Police investigations revealed that two others were purchasing drugs disguised as painkillers from a Mumbai medical store at low prices and selling them at higher rates in Chennai and surrounding areas. Authorities also scrutinized the suspects’ phones and bank accounts as part of the probe.
