The father and brother of a 23-year-old woman have been arrested for allegedly strangling her after she married a man from a different caste. The woman, identified as Neha, had secretly wed her school friend, Suraj, in an Arya Samaj temple on March 11 in Ghaziabad. The couple was planning to register their marriage at the registrar office in Ghaziabad.
According to Shakti Mohan Avasthy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central Noida, the police arrested Neha’s father, Bhanu, and her brother, Himanshu, within three hours of her murder on Thursday. They were apprehended by a team from the Bisrakh police station.
Police revealed that the family was enraged by Neha’s decision to marry Suraj, who worked as a cab driver. The two had been in a relationship for six years, having known each other since class 10. The family’s opposition to the marriage, primarily due to caste differences, led to the tragic crime. After the murder, the accused also cremated Neha’s body.
Both the father and brother have reportedly confessed to the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
