TEHRAN — Fatemeh Ziaei Azad, a 66-year-old former political prisoner and human rights activist in Tehran, was arrested on Thursday, August 7, 2025, by agents of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence. Her current whereabouts remain unknown.

Also known as Houriyeh, Ziaei was reportedly taken from her home during a raid by intelligence officers, who also confiscated her communication devices, according to sources close to the family.

The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights confirmed the arrest, raising alarm over her safety and the lack of transparency. Ziaei has previously faced multiple arrests and persistent harassment due to her political activism and rights advocacy.

As of now, Iranian authorities have not disclosed the reason for her arrest, her location, or the charges filed against her. Concerns are growing among rights groups and supporters calling for her immediate release and legal representation.
